Slow Progress

Well, all, first I want to say thank you if you are still following the website.  It has been a slow journey to get everything back up and running and I’m not even really close.

The main thing is this: the old blog’s database got corrupted, so I’ve been having to re-create the entire blog by hand, which isn’t easy (or fun), although it’s kind of neat to see all the old posts come back to life.

At any rate, please hang in there with me and in the meantime, I do end up updating my Facebook about 15,000 times a day (not really, but those of you on FB know the addictive nature of that site).

Well, my friends, it’s official!

Today, the European Commission gave their blessing for Google to complete it’s purchase of DoubleClick for $3.1 B.

From the press release:

The European Commission has cleared under the EU Merger Regulation the proposed acquisition of the online advertising technology company DoubleClick by Google, both of the US. The Commission’s in-depth investigation, opened in November 2007, concluded that the transaction would be unlikely to have harmful effects on consumers, either in ad serving or in intermediation in online advertising markets. The Commission has therefore concluded that the transaction would not significantly impede effective competition within the European Economic Area (EEA) or a significant part of it.

A Fresh Start

The Becker Clan - Myles, Delphine and our daughter AllieO.k., all. If you’re seeing this, then you can tell that I’m making a fresh start on I’ve installed new weblog software called MovableType, which will probably surprise some of you, especially since I’ve been such a poo-pooer of blogs in the past.

However, thanks to my friends that have allowed me to see the light, so to speak, I have decided it’d be the easiest way to keep the site updated. After seeing some extremely well done blogs, I tend to agree.

New Job! Woo-Hoo!

Well, after much searching, several first interviews (and a few second and third interviews), I have accepted a position at DoubleClick, the worldwide leader in the Internet marketing and advertising realm.

For those that don’t know, when I was with MatchLogic, we were the #2 guy to DoubleClick’s #1 position. I really think the two companies pushed each other to be better. This, of coruse, was back in the hey-day of the boom, and DoubleClick was the one that come out of the smoke and fire of the crash.

I’m really happy to be back in the Internet marketing and advertising world, and although a lot hasn’t changed, there have been some nice improvements from when I was last visiting. Mainly in the fact that Rich Media has really exploded, which is nice to see, since that was my main focus at ML, and looks to be one of my main focuses here at DC.

It’s another step in the journey of my life, and I look forward to seeing where it will take me. Right now, it’s only taking me 4.5 miles from home, which is the best part of the whole deal!
