Canaan, Kevin and Sam!WOW! Well, it has finally happened! I have become a nuncle…yes a nuncle. It’s a play on words from Puke and Snot, the renowned comedy act of the Renaissance Festivals.

But back to the whole nuncle business!

My sister, Canaan, and her husband Kevin had their first child tonight, June 16, 2004, and he is absolutely beautiful.

Samuel Arno Richards (Arno was our father’s middle name) was born at 8:45 p.m. (California time). He was 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and measured 19 inches long.

Oh, and he’s beautiful…did I mention that? Yeah…heh.

It’s so cool the way that my sister and I have had similar life-changing experiences within a year or two of each other. It’s seemed to happen like that a lot over the past 5-10 years. I started dating Delphine about 7 years ago, just about the time that Canaan found Kevin. Delphine and I got married in April of 1999, and Canaan and Kevin got married later that year. We had the peanut in June of 2002, and now she and Kevin have had Sam.

It’s been nice, too, because we can all share our happinesses (I know it’s not a word – leave me alone), joys, frustrations, heartaches and all the other things together. And we can learn from each other’s successes and failures.

Family’s a great thing, isn’t it? Yeah, I think so, too.

So, a toast to my new nephew:

“Welcome, Little One! May strong arms hold you
Caring hearts tend you and may love await you at every step.”
- An Irish Blessing

I know I’m not Irish, but they say such beautiful things there…
