Today, NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman had a press conference in which he officially cancelled the 2004/2005 hockey season. Here was his opening statement from the press release sent out:
"Every professional sports League owes its very existence to its fans. Everyone associated with the National Hockey League owes our fans an apology for being unable to accomplish what is necessary for our game and our fans. We are truly sorry."I must say I am very disappointed in all who are involved. I was really looking forward to another run at the cup for my Avalanche, but alas, it is not to be. All I can hope at this point is that it doesn't kill the sport completely.
