Piano Lessons and Video Games

Posted at April 16, 2005 10:12 PM in Music .

So, those of you that know me, know that growing up I used to take keyboard lessons (call them organ lessons, piano lessons, whatever - I group them all into the generic term keyboard).

You also know that I have/had a HUGE place in my heart for video games.

In fact, there was even a couple of times where I accidently missed a lesson due to being sucked into the arcade for a while.

So imagine my surprise when my friend Jeff Gamet sent me a link to a guy who calls himself the Video Game Pianist. Here's a guy who's got it figured out. All those times I got in trouble for playing video games, I could have just said that I was doing research for my keyboard lessons...[sigh]

This guy's been playing for 13 years, and is amazing to watch and listen.

He's got free "CDs" available for download in his "audio" section, but if you'd like to see what you're getting yourself into, check out the video of him playing 10 minutes of Super Mario Brothers tunes on GPrime.com. He plays the first song blindfolded...amazing. Oh, and for some blistering tickling of the ivories, make sure you watch the whole thing, and pay attention around the 9:15 mark...wow!

Why didn't I think of this? What a blast this guy must be having. Check out the news section on his site. Because of this wild combination, he is getting invitations to music conferences and festivals all over the US.

Enjoy!
