It was much, much harder than I thought it would be to have KikiMow put down. But Delphine and I have talked about this a lot over the last few months, and he just got to the point where he wasn't the cat he used to be.
KikiMow was a great cat. He was a lover who would jump into the laps of strangers, usually much to their chagrin. He could spot an allergic person at 100 yards, and seek them out in a crowd.
I think his biggest issue came a few years ago when he was out exploring and got locked in a neighbor's garage for a few days. He cried until his voice box was thrashed, and he pulled out a fair amount of hair off his backside. After that incident, he was never quite the same. He became even more neurotic, and continued to pull out his hair, especially when he was stressed out (i.e. we went away on vacation, or longer-than-normal periods of time, etc.).
Over the past few months, he had taken to urinating on anything and everything he could, most times making sure that Delphine was around to see it, almost in defiance.
But I really don't want to dwell on the negative aspects...he really was a good cat. He loved to sleep next to me in bed at night, or curled up near my head. He was a good friend and he will definitely be missed.
A large THANK YOU to my Uncle, Wayne Sargent, DVM, who runs the Montclair Animal Clinic. He's always been a great person to go to for our family's animal problems, and always has a kind heart for these kinds of tough days.
For your viewing enjoyment, and to remember KikiMow best, check out these fun pics of him that we have enjoyed over the years...
Cheers,

He was a great kitty, and everyone who knew him will miss him. I know that I will.

A great cat for a great family. You can't ask for more than that! He will be missed.
PS - you made me cry. I can't imagine how you must feel...
Sorry about your loss, Beckers. People who don't have cats or don't like cats cannot see the inner peace within a cat. I too have a best friend in a cat (Amazing with a nick name of Bird). My cat is Caillou (pronounced Ki-U just like the cartoon on PBS). He is awesome. He plays fetch and I have even taught him to sit. He is there to great me at the door when I come home from work and is the only one away to see me off to work in the mornings. It would be hard for me to lose such a close friend. My sympathy is with you my friends.
