Well, I must say that I am VERY proud of my Colorado Avalanche. They took out the 2nd seed Dallas Stars in 5 impressive games. Jose Theodore, our new goalie, acquired from the Montreal Canadiens, did pretty well, having one outstanding game, and 3 good games.
Looking around the Western Conference, there were a LOT of surprises. Edmonton was able to knock off the Detroit Red Wings, the President's Trophy recipient this year for having the best regular season record (I guess the curse is still in tact). San Jose was also a winner, going up against the Nashville Predators and winning handily 4 games to 1. Finally, Anaheim took the Calgary Flames to 7 games, with their newest rookie goaltender, Ilya Bryzgalov, looking like Giguere did just a few years earlier.
So, all four lower seeds won their respective match-ups, which means that the newest top seed is San Jose who will play Edmonton and Colorado will match up against the Anaheim Mighty Ducks.
I think we have our hands full, especially with Anaheim coming off such an emotional series win that went all seven games. Only time will tell, of course, but I'm just looking forward to more good hockey.
Enjoy the playoffs!
