Rest In Peace: Steve "Crikey" Irwin

Few people get to go the way they want to go...

I have a STRONG suspiscion that the Crocodile Hunter got to go exactly the way he would have liked, albeit a bit sooner than he would have wanted.

On Monday (Labor Day here in the States), Steve was in the process of filming some footage for the Discovery show "World's Deadliest" near the Great Barrier Reef when he was attacked by a bull stingray.

Now, normally stingrays do not attack people, but with several folks in the water near the stingray, Steve was just in the wrong place at the wrong time when the stingray, feeling threatened, stabbed at the nearest target with it's barbed tail.

The cameraman, not realizing what had happened until Steve pulled the barb out and then collapsed, kept filming to the bitter end. The film was handed over to the authorities who determined that Steve had done nothing wrong during the process.

Most folks I know really enjoyed Steve and his antics. I know a lot of criticism came his way over the past year or two, but honestly, I really do think he knew what he was doing. He's a much more responsible parent than Brittney or Michael Jackson...

My condolances to his wife, Teri, and his kiddos, Bindi Sue (8) and Robert Clarence (2).
